Carbon Sequestration in the Desertified Rangelands of Hosseinabad

Abstract:

In this quarter, the focus was on the environmental programs in schools, analysing the results of monitoring and evaluation of the project, village profile preparation, revision of second phase proposal of the project.

In this quarter, Project Review Committee (PRC) was held to review the third quarterly workplan of 2009. Up to the reporting period, third year report on monitoring and evaluation was approved by technical committee. Fourth year sampling for monitoring and evaluation carried out by the M&E team in all section except of socio-economic based on time table.

Now, there are 39 VDGs active in the project area including 8 male, 7 female and 24 mixed respectively. Up to the end of this quarter, total VDGs members amounted to 1370   members and the total saving amount of VDGs funds reached to RLs 31.300.000 and about RLs 427.000.000 was allocated to VDGs members in the form of loan from their own saving for micro-enterprise and consumptive needs.

In this quarter, the rehabilitation activities including seed gathering, crescent shaped dam stablishment, gabion by using second hand tyre and drug species plantation in seedling, production station of Hosseinabad were completed.            

In this quarter, management board members of scientific institute of Iran management and controlling desertification visited the project. Meanwhile, group director of rehabilition of dry and mountainous areas from Tehran university along with four PH.D. students visited the Project, Also in this three months, workshop on sustainable management of natural resourses in arid areas and semi-arid for one week in the province by teacher from Indian institute of (CAZERI) held. The fifth number of Green thought in this quarter was published.
